The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased 0.5 percent
in January on a seasonally adjusted basis, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics
reported today. Over the last 12 months, the all items index rose 2.1 percent
before seasonal adjustment.

The current unemployment rate of 4.30% is below the 2007 low of 4.40%. Theoretically, there should be wage inflation at this “low” unemployment rate. But the year over year wage increase is a relatively benign 2.5%. Why would the Fed be in a rush to raise rates?
