TSX Index Candlestick Chart

TSX Index chart analysis showing the near-term uptrend and resistance at 12,900 with support at 12,600. The most important points from this chart are the old lateral trading range and the major resistance level of 12,900. Can the TSX break 12,900 before the S&P 500 corrects? There was a feeble attempt on May 22 represented by the shooting star candlestick and a bounce off support the next day. Overall, the TSX index has a weak technical profile.

Technical Analysis of copper

Increased probability copper will test major support at $3.00
Copper candlestick weekly chart showing the intermediate downtrend and major support at $3.00

Copper Candlestick Chart courtesy of Stockcharts.com

High probability copper will test major support at $3.00. It is trading below the 50 day and 200 day moving averages. The 50 day has crossed the 200 day moving average. There was a tall dark shaven head and bottom ( very close) candlestick on the daily chart today. The RSI is at an oversold level but it can stay oversold for long periods and this is no reason to buy against the intermediate and near-term downtrend.

I have posted a number of charts on Dr. Copper highlighting the tepid prognosis for the world economy. One of the charts showed the positive correlation between the price of copper and the TSX Index.

The intermediate trend is up for the TSX Index and the near-term trend is down. Resistance is located around the 12,800 level with support at 12,500. The energy and materials sectors, representing 45% of the TSX Index, are struggling and there is an increased probability that the TSX will test support at 12,500.

U.S. Treasury 10 Year Note chart analysis

Intermediate uptrend with support at 1.900%
Intermediate uptrend for the U.S. Treasury 10 Year note with support at 1.90%

U.S.Treasury 10 Year Note 1-Year Chart courtesy of BigCharts.com

The U.S. Treasury 10 Year Bond is one of the four asset classes that I monitor which include stocks, bonds, commodities and currencies. The intermediate uptrend for the 10 year bond yield (bond price and yield have an inverse relationship – bond price drops then the yield rises) represents the increased movement of capital from the relative safety of this U.S. Treasury to stocks and to a lesser extent, commodities.
